Luigi Dadda

Luigi Dadda ( born April 29, 1923 in Lodi, Italy, † 26 October 2012 in Milan ) was an Italian computer pioneer, and from 1972 to 1984 Rector of the Polytechnic University of Milan with work in the field of technical computer science. According to him, the digital technology used in the Dadda multiplier is named.

Dadda studied electrical engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, graduating with a thesis on a wireless signal transmission between the cities of Turin and Trieste in 1947 from. This was followed, with the financial support of the National Science Foundation, in 1953, among other studies at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech ) and working with analog computers. In 1960 he became a full professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, 1962 Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was also a founding member of the Associazione Italiana per l' Informatica ed il Calcolo Automatico ( AICA ), which he chaired from 1967 to 1970. Between 1980 and 1982 he was chairman of the Commission on Science and Technology at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
