Luigi Fortis

Aloysius Fortis ( born February 26, 1748 in Verona, † January 29, 1829 in Rome ) was the 20th General of the Jesuit Order ( Society of Jesus ).

Life

1762, at the age of only 14 years, Fortis started the novitiate in Venice. He taught at the University of Ferrara. After the abolition of the order, he taught at a school for nobles.

As the 19th Superior General Tadeusz Brzozowski had died on 5 February 1820, the General Assembly on 18 October of the same year Fortis successor. Fortis spent his short tenure in order to restore the order internally and externally.

Aloysius Fortis died on January 29, 1829 in Rome. He was succeeded by Joannes Philip Roothaan.
