Luis Brunetto

Luis Brunetto ( Luis Ángel Brunetto; born October 27, 1901 in Rosario, † May 7, 1968 ) was an Argentine athlete who in 1924 won the Olympic silver medal in the triple jump.

In April 1924 Brunetto won at the championships in South America Buenos Aires with 14.64 m in the triple jump. In the long jump he lost the Chileans Ramiro García at millimeter and received the silver medal. At the Olympic Games in 1924 Brunetto jumped as the best jumper in the triple jump qualification 15.425 m. In the final of the Australian Nick Winter surpassed him by ten centimeters. Brunetto was awarded the silver medal and was the first Argentine, who won an Olympic medal in athletics. While Brunetto won his medal, the Argentine polo team won the gold medal. Thus, Argentina won his first two Olympic medals on the same day.

Although Brunetto could never surpass his best jump of the Olympic Games in 1924, but he remained for years the best South American triple jumper. 1926, 1927, 1929 and 1931, he won championships in South America, in 1926 he set the championship record with 15,10 m. Together with the high jumpers Valerio Vallanía, his compatriot, Brunetto was the first athlete who five times won his competition in South America Championships. 1924, 1926, 1929 and 1931 were the two even a victorious team in the team competition, only 1927, the Argentine team was defeated by the Chileans.

The at a size of 1.86 m in the competition 74 kg heavy Brunetto is the up -date ( 2008) only Argentine triple jumper, who won an Olympic medal.
