Luka Mislej

Luka Mislej (* October 1670 in Vipavska, † 1727 in Loka ) was a Slovene painter and sculptor.

In 1722 married the Italian sculptor Francesco Robba, who took over after his studio Mislejs death, his daughter Theresa.

Works

Mislej the owner of a large workshop, a number of contracts for the construction and equipping of churches was executed. There were working more sculptors, especially Italian, as Angelo Pozzo, Giacomo Conti (both from Padua ) and the already mentioned Francesco Robba. So it is still very difficult to determine what are actually his own work.

Some of his best known works are the portal of the Seminary of Ljubljana, the painted decoration of Jacob Church in Ljubljana, the altar of the chapel Brežice and the main altar of the St. Vitus Cathedral in Rijeka.
