Lüleburgaz

Lüleburgaz ( Bergula, Greek Arkadiupolis, Bulgarian Люлебургас / Ljuleburgas, latin Arcadiopolis ) is a Turkish town in the province Kırklareli. The city itself had in the year 2010 100.412 and district of 134 073 inhabitants. Some buildings of the Turkish architect Sinan located in Lüleburgaz. Famous in particular for the city was their tobacco pipes production to which it owes its name ( lüle referred to in Turkish, the mouthpiece of the pipe).

History

Arkadiopolis was 823 last retreat for the Byzantine emperor against Thomas. The siege of the city by the Byzantines and Bulgarians ended in October 823 with Thomas ' delivery to Emperor Michael.

The place was the site of the historic Battle of Arkadiopolis 970 AD, in which the Byzantines fought off a Bulgarian invasion. There is also a battleground of the Huns time. During the First Balkan War in 1912 the Bulgarian troops won the Battle of Lüleburgaz a victory over the Turks.

In the vicinity of Lüleburgaz and Kırklareli there are ancient sights, such as grave hill, dolmens and menhirs.

Since Lüleburgaz is one of the few places in Turkey that starts with an L ( the L stands in the Turkish general rare word-initially ), it is part of the Turkish Buchstabieralphabets.
