Lullin

Lullin is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Lullin is situated 856 m above sea level, 11 km south-southeast of the town of Thonon -les -Bains, 30 km east-northeast of Geneva ( straight line ). The mountain village is located in the central Chablais, in a western tributary of the Vallée du Brevon, in the Savoy Alps, between the heights of Mont Forchat in the west and Narmont in the southeast.

The area of ​​13.25 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the northern Savoy Alps. From southwest to northeast, the area is crossed by the valley of the brook Follaz. The initially narrow valley widens at Lullin and flows north-east of the village in the Vallée du Brevon. The valley is bounded on its right side by the wooded ridge of Narmont and its northeastern foothills (up to 1364 m). The north-western side of the valley is divided by the troughs of various short tributaries of Follaz. Here, the area extends to the ridge of Mont d' Hermone and Mont Forchat on which with 1530 m the highest peak of Lullin is achieved. Between passes the saddle of the Col du Feu ( 1117 m) above Lake Geneva basin. The southwestern boundary of the municipal area make up the Col des Arce ( 1171 m), which connects to the Vallée Verte, and the forest height of the Bois de la Tarche ( 1329 m).

In geological- tectonic terms, the area around Lullin belongs to the so-called Préalpes ( präalpine ceiling of the Penninic ) and in the unity of the Préalpes median Plastique, a soft, sculptural sequence of flysch rocks. The oldest rocks are from the Triassic and are in the valley of Follaz and Mont Forchat to find. Otherwise, mostly calcareous rocks from the Lias and Dogger are pending on the heights. History

Finds of tools and other items indicate that the area of Lullin been inhabited since the Neolithic period in the period around 1200-800 BC. Is first mentioned Lullin in 1078 under the name Lulin. For later times the names de Lullino (1250 ) and Lullins originate ( 1275 ). The place name is derived from the Gallo-Roman word Lullianum, composed of the personal names Lullius and the suffix - anum. Lullin belonged to the Duchy of Savoy Chablais. Population
