Luminescent solar concentrator

A luminescent solar concentrator (English luminescent solar concentrator, LSC) is an optically active component, which can focus incident light onto a small area, such as a solar cell. They usually consist of plastic.

Unlike lenses, which are used in conventional concentrating photovoltaic, luminescent solar concentrators can not only direct but also indirect capture the portion of sunlight. Photovoltaic systems luminescent solar concentrators could therefore in regions with a higher proportion of diffuse sunlight (eg, Europe) convert more solar energy into electrical energy. Previous applied materials have an even modest efficiency of up to 7.1%, although efficiencies of up to 30-40 % would be theoretically possible.
