Lunca de Jos

Lunca de Jos (deprecated Lunca -de- Mijloc, Lunca Gimeşului or Lunca Ghimeşului; Hungarian Gyimesközéplok or Csíkgyimesközéplok ) is a municipality in Harghita county in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The community Lunca de Jos lies in the east of Transylvania in the western foothills of the Tarcău Mountains - a mountain range of the Eastern Carpathians - in the historical Székely Land. At the headwaters of the Trotus, the railway line Sfântu Gheorghe Siculeni - Adjud and the National Road ( Drum National) DN 12A, the place Lunca de Jos is located 37 kilometers northeast of the county town of Miercurea Ciuc.

North of Lunca de Jos leads the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 127A on the Damuc Pass ( 980 m) ⊙ 46.6734725.92173 towards the small town of Bicaz in Neamţ county; the national road 12A on the Ghimes - Făget Pass to Comăneşti in Bacau county.

History

The place Lunca de Jos was first mentioned in documents in 1850.

Population

1850 lived on the territory of the present municipality 776 Magyars. In the coming years the number of population increased by leaps and bounds, so 1900 - the same time the highest population of Germans ( 94) - 2,632 people were counted. The highest population ( 5,392 ) in 1977 - the same time the Serbs (4) - achieved. The highest number of Magyars ( 5,313 ) in 1966, which the Romanians (284 ) and reached the Roma ( 22) 1930. In addition, in 1910 and 1930 indicated a per capita than Ukrainians in 1930 and 1992 per capita than a Serb, 1910 three, 1930 a and 1941 two residents as Slovaks. 2002 there were 5,227 people in the municipality, of which 5,175 Hungarians, 42 Romanians and ten without information. In the 2011 census, 5,328 people were counted in the community Lunca de Jos.

The main occupation of the population is the livestock and timber processing.

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic Church Sf. Mary Magdalene was built in 1855 in Lunca de Jos and renewed 1927.
  • A water mill, built in the 19th century ( in the st. Principală nr. 605) is a listed building.
  • In the village of Valea Rece eingemeindeten ( Kaltenbach ), two Roman Catholic chapels wood Schimbarea La Fata in the 19th and Sf. Anton built in the 20th century, and the farms of Péter Csillag (No. 1124 ) in the 19th century and that of Focze Istvan (No. 822) in the 20th century, are national monuments.
