Lungu people

The Rungu or Warungu are a small Bantu ethnic group in southwestern Tanzania and northeastern Zambia.

1987 their number in Tanzania was estimated at 34,000. The number of Rungu in Zambia is not known because they are grouped together here under the ethnicity of Mambwe. Their number was estimated in 1993 to 262,800 in Zambia.

The Rungu are farmers and ranchers. They are Christians with animistic roots.

The languages ​​of Mambwe, the Lungu and Rungu differ only in small dialect variations.
