Lunsar

Province

Lunsar is a city in Sierra Leone. It is located in the Port Loko Chiefdom Marampa district in the northern province.

The town is inhabited by Temne. Because of their importance, however, numerous members of other ethnic groups have immigrated. The population grew from 12,132 people in 1963 to 16,723 in 1974. With the closure of the mines then there was a stagnation. 1985 16.073 people were counted, 2004 16.567 inhabitants.

Lunsar located on the road from the capital Freetown to Makeni. Economically important was formerly the iron ore mining in the six kilometers eastern Marampa.

Today the town is the market and trading center for rice, palm oil and palm kernels.

In the city there is a private ( Roman Catholic) run hospital.
