Luther Ingram
Luther Ingram ( born November 30, 1937 in Jackson, Tennessee, † March 19, 2007 in Belleville, Illinois) was an American soul singer and songwriter.
Ingram's biggest hit was (If Loving You Is Wrong ) I Do not Want to Be Right, in the Billboard charts in 1972 reached No. 3 and No. 1 in the R & B charts in 1972. With Sir Mack Rice, he wrote the hit Respect Yourself for the Staple Singers. He has performed with Ike Turner, Isaac Hayes and lived for a while with Jimi Hendrix in New York City.
On 19 March 2007, he died of heart failure. He suffered for years from diabetes, kidney disease and partial blindness.
