Lyngbya

Lyngbya is a genus of filamentous cyanobacteria or " blue-green algae ." Type species of the genus Lyngbya confervoides C.Agardh. Named is the genus by Hans Christian Lyngbye.

Features

Lyngbya growing, as for the typical Oscillatoriales mentioned in long unbranched hyphae, and filaments. These are surrounded by an often colorless, gelatinous envelope. The filaments can form mats. The individual cells are longer than wide. To increase hormogonia be formed.
