Lytro

Lytro Inc. is an American company that manufactures based in Mountain View, California, USA, the plenoptische cameras for home users. The devices allow it to set until after the recording, which the screen is in focus. The computer scientist Ren Ng founded the company in 2006. Boss is Jason Rosenthal. The first model brought Lytro 2012 in the USA on the market since July 2013 it is also available in Germany.

Technology

In the plenoptic photography, as light field photography known, the camera captures not only the position and intensity of the incident light rays, but also its direction. This possible field of light measurement is a grating of a plurality of micro lenses in front of the image sensor.

The camera software can calculate different images from these data. Thus, it is e.g. possible to re- set the focus after exposure.

Financing

Lytro received a total of $ 50 million financing. The investors include the venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz.
