Lyudmila Karachkina

Lyudmila Georgievna Karatschkina (Ukrainian: Людмила Георгіївна Карачкіна, Russian: Людмила Георгиевна Карачкина; born September 3, 1948 in Rostov-on- Don ) is a Ukrainian (until 1992: Soviet ) astronomer.

Karatschkina Lyudmila, daughter of a mathematician and scientist who works as a senior researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy of the Crimean Observatory. She has discovered 131 asteroids, including the Amor asteroid ( 5324 ) Lyapunov and the Trojans ( 3063 ) makhaon. The asteroid ( 8019 ) Karachkina was named in her honor.

Together with Lyudmila Schurawljowa, with whom she worked at the Crimean Observatory, they named the 1982 Small Planet ( 3067 ) by the writer Akhmatova Anna Akhmatova. In the same year she dedicated the director Andrei Tarkovsky, the writer Mikhail Bulgakov and Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva the writer also the name of a celestial body. This naming counted as subtle but authoritative correction of the cultural history of Soviet Russia.

Karatschkina has two daughters, the pianist Maria and Renata.
