Lyudmila Petrushevskaya

Lyudmila Stefanowna Petrushevskaya (Russian Людмила Стефановна Петрушевская; born May 26, 1938 in Moscow) is a Russian writer and playwright.

Biography

After the war she returned to Moscow, where she completed her studies at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University in 1961. She worked to the Soviet radio and television, in various newspapers, as an external reviewer of the literary journal Novy Mir.

In 1968 she began to write. From 1973 stories were published as " The Violin ", " The narrator ", " nets and traps " or " The Observation Deck " (1974, published 1982)

Especially as a playwright Lyudmila Petrushevskaya was extremely popular in the Soviet Union. The piece of music lessons followed Cinzano (1973 ), Love (1974, 1986 Premiere Moscow ), two little windows (1975 ), Come into the kitchen (1978), Three Girls in Blue ( 1980).

She wrote further children's fairy tales, screenplays, among others as co-author of the most important Russian cartoon " Tale of Tales " ( with Yuri Norstein ), and for an animated film by Gogol's overcoat.

Petrushevskaya is considered one of the most talented Russian writers. It combines postmodernist trends with the psychological insights and parodic allusions to writers such as Anton Chekhov.

In 1998 she was a jury member at the 3rd Russian Festival of Animated Film.

Petrushevskaya plays have been performed on stages around the world. Her stories appeared in over 30 countries.

Lyudmila Petrushevskaya lives in Moscow.
