M. A. Yegorov

Mikhail Alekseevich Egorov (Russian: Михаил Алексеевич Егоров, born May 5, 1923 in Jermoschenki in today's Smolensk Oblast, Soviet Union, † 20 June 1975 in Smolensk ) was a sergeant in the Red Army.

According to official Soviet historiography he was one of three soldiers who raised the Soviet victory flag on the Reichstag building in Berlin on 30 April 1945. All three were decorated as a " Hero of the Soviet Union " with several medals and received in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the fight against fascism, a pension for life.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the capitulation of the Wehrmacht Yegorov was appointed in East Berlin on May 8, 1965 honorary citizen. The honorary citizenship was revoked after the reunification of the city on 29 September 1992.
