M. Stanley Whittingham

Manley Stanley Whittingham ( born December 22, 1941 in England) is a British- American chemist.

M. Stanley Whittingham studied chemistry at Oxford University (BA 1964, MA in 1967, D.Phil. , 1968). From 1968 to 1972 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. From 1972 to 1984, he worked for Exxon Research & Engineering Company. He is a professor of chemistry and director of the Institute for Materials Research ( Institute for Materials Research ) at Binghamton University in upstate New York. Whittingham made ​​decisive contributions to the study of lithium batteries.
