Maccabi Netanya F.C.

The Maccabi Netanya FC (Hebrew מועדון כדורגל מכבי נתניה - Moadon Kaduregel Maccabi Netanya ) is an Israeli football club founded in 1934 from Netanya.

History

The club was founded in 1934 in the Israeli city of Netanya. Since then they have played in over 40 seasons in the First Israeli league.

The most successful period was Maccabi Netanya in the 1970s and early 80s. At the time, called the Israeli League also colloquially " Netanya and the other 15 ". A large part of the former Israeli national football team came from Netanya.

The mid-90s the club ( League Leumit ) increased from the second division and remained there for several years. In the meantime, could Maccabi Netanya indeed rise again, but had to accept the direct relegated again.

Since the 2005/2006 season, the club plays in the first division. Strong local rivalry to also based in Netanya FC Beitar Nes Tubruk.

2006, the club was bought by the German businessman Daniel Jammer for one million euros. He brought many new players into the team, among other things the Costa Rican 's most capped player Luis Marín. In addition, he built up a youth work and recruited many investors and sponsors for the club.

In the 2008/2009 season, the German coach and former World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus took over as coach of the club. At European level, the team conceded a crushing defeat in the return match against Galatasaray 6-0 on 6 August 2009. The first leg had also lost with 1:4 Netanya.

The 2011/12 season they finished fourth as a table, level on points with the runner-up, down, thereby qualifying the following season for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.
