Mace (unit)
The Momme (Japanese匁or文 目), also Monme or Me (目), was a weight and unit of measure in Japanese Shakkanhō system.
Unit of weight
The measure has been used in Japan and beyond as silk weight. Momme corresponds to the Chinese measure Chih / Tsien.
In the practical application of the measure is calculated on the basis of one square meter of the tissue weight. The Momme, adapted to the situation, was about 4.31 grams per square meter. The piece of silk was woven in the simple taffeta or linen binding and designated Pongee. This name was taken as Feinheitsmaß for silk fabric and the attached figure was multiplied by the Mommegewicht per square meter. Example: Pongee 4 square meters of silk has about 17.24 grams.
