Macedonians in Germany

According to the result of the last estimate from the 2006 live 62 295 Macedonian citizens in Germany. Sources of the Republic of Macedonia claim that the actual number is about 85,000.

The original native language of German - Macedonians, the Macedonian language, next is as a foreign language - and, increasingly, as a native language - especially German spoken. They are predominantly Macedonian Orthodox Christians.

The Macedonians living mostly in the states of Bavaria, Berlin, Saxony and Baden- Württemberg. The cities with the largest shares in the Macedonian population are Berlin, Nuremberg, Ingolstadt, Aalen, Hannover and Stuttgart.

Among the categories of citizens of Germany are also many ethnic Albanians from Macedonia, which make up there around 25 percent of the total population and are thus an integral part of the multi-ethnic structure of the country. This can be estimated inaccurately the exact number of Slav Macedonians in Germany, as a large part of the Macedonian citizens are Albanians. Organization and religion

The Macedonians in Germany are predominantly Orthodox Christians. As part of the Macedonian Orthodox Church or the MPCO today organized the majority of the emigrants. Most of these organizations were founded in the early 1990s, soon after the collapse of Yugoslavia and thus the establishment of the Republic of Macedonia. The original church was founded in 1980 in Hamburg, and soon after six more MPCO communities were established in the Federal Republic. The MPCO communities have their own churches, bringing together many Macedonians for Easter and Christmas. The largest are:

  • MPCO " Sv. Atanasie " from Nuremberg
  • MPCO " Sv. Troica " from Munich
  • MPCO " Sveti Kiril i Methodius " from Dortmund

The MPCO communities promote the Macedonian Orthodox Church in Germany, the traditional Macedonian folklore and customs from home. They also promote the maintenance of the Macedonian heritage, language and traditions of the Macedonians in Germany.

Among the other Christian minorities in the Macedonian- German community include the Greek Catholics, Eastern Catholics, a few Eastern Catholic and some Protestants. A small part of the Macedonians are not Muslim. These Muslim Macedonians are called Torbeschen. Today, many Macedonians can be counted among the non-religious, irreligious and agnostics and secularists, however, in the meantime.

Sports

There are several Macedonian sports clubs and teams in Germany. Among the best known FK Makedonija 1970 from Berlin.
