Macintosh Performa

Macintosh Performa refers to a series of computers that Apple produced as part of their family of Macintosh personal computers from 1992 to 1997.

In the Performa series, it was not an own, uniform series, but a selection of the 67 existing products and product variants, which were subsequently combined and marketed additionally this series designation. Apple tried with this series for the first time to gain home users for their otherwise rather in the professional field used computer.

Well-known models in this series were the Performa 200 (actually, Macintosh Classic II ), the Performa 400 (actually Macintosh LC II) and the Performa 5200 (actually 5200LC Power Macintosh ). In contrast to the regular Apple products this time, the Performa series was sold as a package with monitor and keyboard and pre-installed software (including ClarisWorks ). In addition, the operating system was slightly modified.

Many early units of the Performa series followed the design used today still in the iMac, are housed in the monitor, motherboard and drives together in the same enclosure. The models differed greatly in processor performance and features. Especially popular was the Performa 5200, which was available with built-in TV tuner and could be used as a compact TV.

The Performa series were added any new devices more from April 1996. The production of the last model, the Performa 6400, was finally stopped in August 1997.
