Maçka (Trabzon Province)

Macka ( Laz: Maçuka, Greek: Ματσούκα, Matsouka ) is the name of a district town and a district in the southwestern Turkish province of Trabzon. The city is located on a route from Trabzon to Gümüşhane right on the river Değirmendere. Macka has 5,750 and the county 24,494 inhabitants ( 2010).

The county is bordered on the south by the province Gümüşhane. With 1000 km ² Macka is the largest county in the province. Macka is surrounded by mountains and deep valleys created by rivers marked. Here are the Sumela monastery and Vazelon impressive buildings. Sumela located in National Park Altındere. Founded in 1913 in the district of Macka, there are two other municipalities and 57 villages.

At the village Şimşirli the 752 built Kustul Monastery is for living here until 1923 Ponto Greeks.
