Madikeri (formerly anglicized Mercara; Kannada: ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ ) is a city in southern India. It is the capital of the district of Kodagu in Karnataka and about 250 kilometers from Bangalore. The village lies at an altitude of 1166 meters above sea level. Madikeri has about 34,000 inhabitants (calculation, as of 1 January 2007).
