Madrid Painter

The Madrid- painter was a black-figure Attic vase painter in the late period of the style.

The Madrid- painter is active at a time in which the red-figure style slowly began to outstrip the black-figured style. His works exude quite the spirit of modern technology, but are still the old style obliged. So he shows anatomical details and uses new poses that were introduced with the new style. It shows as a shield in a shortened view and or each leg in frontal and side-view in a collapsing Cycnus. At the same vase he still shows in addition to the new elements ancient animal frieze - predella. The works of the Madrid- painters are dated to the period around 520 BC. He received his Notnamen after a vase, which is kept in Archaeological Museum Nacional de España in Madrid.
