Magas of Egypt

Magas (Greek Μάγας; * to 240 BC; † around 222/221 BC) was a prince of the Hellenistic Ptolemäerdynastie in Egypt.

Magas was one of the younger sons of King Ptolemy III. and Berenice II; He was named after his maternal grandfather, Magas of Cyrene. After the death of Seleucus III. 223 BC, he had led a mission to Asia Minor. Shortly after the arrival in power of his brother Ptolemy IV in 222 BC Magas was murdered with his mother and his uncle Lysimachus by the Minister of the Court Sosibius. The deed was done apparently in agreement Ptolemy IV, because Magas had a lot of popularity in the army.
