The Magat Dam is a large dam on the river Magat in the Philippines. The dam is one with 114 meters high and 4160 meters long, the largest in Southeast Asia.

Dam

The dam is located on the territory of the municipality in Ramon, Isabela province in Luzon. It is used to irrigate 85,000 hectares of land, flood control and power generation. The reservoir holds about 993 million cubic meters is 117 square kilometers and a maximum of 193 feet deep. The dam is 114 meters high and consists of rockfill material. The planning and construction began in 1975. The actual construction began in 1980 and lasted until 1983. The dam has a spillway with four independent closures to prevent an overflow of the dam. The inflow is controlled by the National Irrigation Authority ( NIA ) and thus set the storage level of the lake from her. The irrigation system is fed by the reservoir, supplied agricultural holdings in the districts I to IV in the province of Isabela.

Hydroelectric power station

The hydroelectric power plant produces an output of 381 megawatts and is designed as a peak load power plant. Four turbines from a French manufacturer, each with a nominal capacity of 90 MW were installed. These run in a year on average in three hundred production runs and together generate 929 gigawatts of electricity a year. The hydropower plant was privatized in 2007 and is owned by the joint venture company SN Aboitiz Equity Ventures, where 50 percent each, the Norwegian SN Power and Aboitiz Equity Ventures, the Philippine involved.
