Magdalena of Neuenahr-Alpen

Magdalena von Neuenahr -Alpen ( * 1550, † January 13, 1626 ) was heiress of the house Neuenahr -Alpen, by Heritage Countess of Limburg and by marriage Countess of Tecklenburg.

Life

Magdalena was a daughter of the Earl Gumprecht II von Neuenahr -Alpen and Countess Amoena, daughter of Count V. Wirich of Daun- Falkenstein. Magdalena married on July 26, 1573 in Wesel Count Arnold IV of Bentheim. Both led a happy family life. With her husband she had seven sons and four daughters. The family held alternately yard in Bentheim, Steinfurt and aged primarily in Tecklenburg.

Of considerable importance that passed over Magdalen family close relationships with the leading princes of the Reformed movement in the Holy Roman Empire. Her sister Amalie was with the Elector Frederick III. married. Her brother Adolf was also a leading proponent of Calvinism. In the year of marriage her husband came over also to the Reformed faith. Magdalena inherited after the death of her brother Adolf in 1589 the rule Alps, Helpenstein, rule Linnep and Erbvogtei Cologne, whose rights it but in 1590 ceded to her half-sister Amalia. After the death of her half-sister Amalia in 1602 Magdalena was heiress of the county of Limburg Castle Hohen Limburg. The Duke of Jülich -Cleves -Berg rose as a feudal lord entitled to the County as a home fief. He ignored the heirship Magdalene. With the support of the Emperor of Cologne Elector Ernst of Bavaria built the county Limburg occupy in 1584 to prevent the expansion of Jülich -Cleves and Berg.
