Magellanic Plover

Magellan Plover ( Pluvianellus socialis )

The Magellan Plover ( Pluvianellus socialis ) is the only species from the family of Magellan Plover ( Pluvianellidae ) within the order of Charadriiformes ( Charadriiformes ) and occurs only in southern South America. The relationship status of the species is not yet clarified.

The Magellan Plover resemble in physique and behavior of the stone tomes. Back and chest feathers are light gray, otherwise possesses the kind of white plumage, short red legs, a black beak and red eyes. Juveniles have yellowish eyes and legs. The birds give dovelike calls from him.

Magellan plover nest near water and place two large eggs directly on the ground, but usually survived only a young bird.

They feed on small invertebrates that they pick like the Ruddy Turnstone on the ground or under stones.
