Magic Slim

Magic Slim ( Morris Holt actually; born August 7, 1937 in Torrence, Mississippi, † February 21, 2013 in Philadelphia ) was an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. With his band " The Teardrops " he was - in addition to Magic Sam - the most famous representative of the "West Side Chicago Blues".

Life

Originally played Magic Slim piano. In an accident, but he lost a finger and was therefore no longer able to. In 1955 he played in Chicago some time in Robert Perkins Band " Mr. Pitiful & the Teardrops ," before he returned to Mississippi.

In 1965, he tried it with his brothers Nick and Lee Baby again in Chicago. As a " Magic Slim & the Teardrops ," they made some shots and had considerable success. The big breakthrough came in 1977 with the album Born Under A Bad Signed

Magic Slim & The Teardrops in 2000 were awarded the Living Blues Award and 2003 with a Handy Award as Blue Band of the Year. Overall, Magic Slim has won during his career six Handy Awards (as of 2006).
