Magnum T.A.

Terry Wayne Allen ( * June 11, 1959 Chesapeake, Virginia ) is a retired American professional wrestler who is best known under the name Magnum TA.

Private

Allen grew up in Tidewater; Virginia attended high school at the Norfolk Collegiate School in Norfolk, Virginia. After graduating, he moved to Norfolk 's Old Dominion University, where he made but no degree.

On October 14, 1986 Allen was driving on a wet road in his Porsche. He lost control of the car, went off the road and crashed into unbraked against a telephone pole. Initially it was suspected that Allen was too fast, but investigations revealed that he had kept to the speed limit. Allen was seriously injured by the accident and had thereby end his wrestling career.

Allen is a born-again Christian. He was divorced and married in March 2005, the ex-wife of Tully Blanchard, Courtney Shattuck Blanchard. Since October 2007 they have the twins Lucy and Tucker.

Today Allen lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, and since 1995 has been working as a contractor for transmission towers.

Career

Background in sports

Allen began in 1977 with the professional wrestling when he took up for the promotions Championship Wrestling from Florida and Pacific Northwest.

A little later he moved to Mid-South Wrestling, where he was in 1983 under the name Magnum TA up to Topstar the promotion. He won by André the Giant 's name. His gimmick leaned close to actor Tom Selleck and his series role Magnum, PI, since Allen Selleck saw but very similar.

After the construction of Allen's top star for the promotion of these could also win the Mid-South North American Heavyweight Championship title when he was allowed to beat Mr. Wrestling II.

Jim Crockett Promotions

In 1984 he was taken from the Jim Crockett Promotions under contract. He was teamed with Dusty Rhodes in a tag team, which bore the name of America's Team. Although this tag team could never win titles in the promotion, but was one of the team that drew the most viewers.

As a single wrestler Allen was able to win the United States Championship from Wahoo McDaniel when he was allowed to defeat this in the context of the storyline. However, this title he had relatively quickly return it to Tully Blanchard. On November 28, 1985 Allen was allowed to again compete against Blanchard and defeat this at " NWA Starrcade ". He was the second time U.S. champion of the promotion.

In April 1986, began Ivan Koloff his nephew Nikita as the true U.S. champion to announce. Thus began a long -scale feud between the program Koloffs and Allen. Ultimately, Allen had to cede to the U.S. Title to Krusher Khruschev.

After a car accident Allen had to end his active wrestling career.

National Wrestling Alliance

After his playing days Allen worked as a commentator for the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling. After various programs feud Allen retired from wrestling, but returned in 1993 for a few gigs back to WCW.
