Magnus Stifter

Magnus Stifter (born 23 January 1878 in Vienna, † September 8, 1943 ) was an Austrian actor and film director.

Life

Donors attended the Commercial College and received his training as an actor with Professor Otto. In 1899 he made ​​his debut in Innsbruck, 1901, he played in Salzburg, 1903 in Linz and from 1905 to 1908 in Berlin. In the season 1908/ 09 he acted at the Deutsches Theater in New York.

In 1909 he was engaged at the Schauspielhaus in Dresden and at the same time the title of " court actor ". His repertoire included here Egmont, Mercutio and FIESCO.

At the beginning of the First World War was the founder lieutenant of artillery, but at this time began his career as a popular silent film actor. With two films with Asta Nielsen he led to the 1916 also director.

Initially he received supporting roles declined in the 20s his film duties, and philanthropist turned back more to the theater. From 1929 he worked at the Youth Theatre and from 1934 at the Theater of the people. On stage arbitration and labor court, he served inter alia as Chairman, Secretary and assessors. His son, Magnus Stifter (1906-1940) was also an actor.
