Magura Cave

Magura ( Bulgarian Магура ) is a cave in Bulgaria. It is located in the northwestern part of the Balkan Mountains, near the village Rabischa around 18 km from the town of Belogradchik and 35 km south of Vidin away. The cave is about 2.5 km long and karstified. On walls paintings are visible, the oldest dating from the late Bronze Age, the most recent from 1200 years BC The cave drawings are being restored since September 2007 and are no longer accessible for visitors to the cave. After completion of the restoration work ( planned for 2011 ) they will not continue to be open to the public. It is planned to issue a copy of the drawings in the publicly accessible part of the cave.

Magura Cave is one of the 100 national tourist objects in Bulgaria. They and their surroundings have been declared a nature reserve.

The cave consists of a central gallery in Southeast -northwest direction and three side galleries with a length of 200 m, width of 50 m and a height up to 20 m. In a side gallery of sparkling wine is produced.
