Mahavatar Babaji

Babaji is an honorary title, translatable with highly revered father: baba (father) is in the Hindi salutation for a monk, and the suffix -ji expresses special devotion from.

Most commonly meant by Mahavatar Babaji Maharaj is a mythological Sadhu which should exist in the Himalayas for many centuries. His origins and his real name is unknown, as his birth or death year. Followers regard him as Maha Avatar (Great Avatar ).

The first have been known report of an encounter comes from the Hindu guru Lahiri Mahasaya (1828-1895), the Babaji in 1861 hit several times and said to have been inaugurated by him " for the good of all humanity " into Kriya Yoga. Then Lahiri Mahasaya had revived this in the meantime forgotten doctrine on behalf of his guru. Also Yukteswar (1855-1936), the most important disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya, Mahavatar Babaji said to have appeared repeatedly physically from 1894. Yukteswar's most famous book The Holy Science was written at the express wish of his Paramaguru ( " Guru Guru his "). Already Lahiri Mahasaya had announced that this doctrine would later spread by subsequent lineage holders in the West.

As of 1920, Paramahansa Yogananda spoke of physical meetings with Mahavatar Babaji, who was known to the general public in the West only through his book, Autobiography of a Yogi ( 1946). According to Yogananda, Babaji had already initiated into Kriya Yoga Lahiri Mahasaya before and Yukteswar Shankara ( a significant Hindu philosopher of the 8th century ) and the Indian mystic of the 15th century Kabir. Babaji's mission was to help the Prophet to be their destination justice.

According to Yogananda and the references cited by him guru Babaji had achieved immortality in the body, which means he can materialize at any time at any place. However, It would be expressed only very advanced yogis, and even those very rare. The same applied to his sister called Mataji, which most revered mother means.
