Lahiri Mahasaya

Lahiri Mahasaya ( born September 30, 1828 in Ghurnigram, Bengal; † 26 September 1895 in Varanasi, India, real name: Shyama Charan Lahiri ) was a spiritual teacher, Yogi and Guru, were among his disciples, Swami Sri Yukteswar and the parents of Paramhansa Yogananda. The title Mahasaya has him as the " Great Soul " and supports its outstanding importance among the yogis of the 19th century.

Life

For a guru Lahiri Mahasaya as it is rather unusual that he was married and a father. As a normal citizen who pursues his daily, worldly duties, he still practiced successfully Yoga according to his supporters. Lahiri Mahasaya lived with his family in Varanasi and taught his students in the courtyard of his house.

Services

At age 30, he met his Guru Mahavatar Babaji. Babaji initiated him in a cave in the Himalayas in the Kriya Yoga and instructed him to spread this method of " association ... with the Infinite " from now on. The very ancient Kriya Yoga techniques were identified and passed on in pre-Christian times of Krishna. They were, however, for many centuries considered lost and were now introduced by Lahiri Mahasaya again. Lahiri Mahasaya inaugurated a human regardless of their faith, their religion or caste. His students included not only Hindus but also Christians, Muslims and monists and dualists, or people with no particular faith.
