Maheshwar is a town in Khargone district in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is located 13 km east of National Highway 3, which runs from Agra to Mumbai and 91 km from the industrial city of Indore. The city is located on the north bank of the Narmada River and was formerly the capital of King Arjuna Kartavirya. A former name of Maheshwar is Mahishmati. The population is about 20,000.

Maheshwar is considered a major center of Sariweberei. Near the city of the Maheshwar Dam is built, which belongs to a controversial giant dam project along the Narmada.
