Mahmud II of Great Seljuq

Mahmud ibn Muhammad ibn Malik - Shah (* 1104/5; † September 10, 1131 ) was from 1118 the Seljuk Sultan in western Persia and Iraq.

Life

Mahmud was testamentary determined as the eldest of the five sons I. Sultan Muhammad (r. 1105-1118 ) as heir to the throne, but his uncle Sanjar (r. 1118-1157 ) is not recognized as a new dynasty head.

In August 1119 it came to the battle of Saveh, won the Sandjar using war elephants. At the request of his mother, he treated the vanquished friendly, married him and gave him (up to Rayy and the Caspian provinces ) all possessions back. However Sandjar name was read from now on in the first Chutba, as he appeared for some time to Mahmud's coins. In addition, Mahmud's highest-ranking officials were henceforth be appointed directly by Sanjar. Mahmud's authority was limited by the time of his reign his four brothers Masud, Toghril, Sulaiman and Seljuk, which behaved as part of rulers and constantly conspiring against him and rebelled, which also attempts to overthrow the local governor and encouraged him constantly busy.
