Mahmud Nedim Pasha

Mahmud Nedim Pasha (* 1818, † 1883) was an Ottoman statesman.

Mahmoud Nedims father was Nacib Pasha, ex-general governor of Baghdad. After he had held various subordinate posts at the gate, he was successively secretary of state for external affairs, general governor of Syria and Smyrna, Minister of Commerce and General Governor of Tripoli, Minister of Justice and Minister of the Navy (1869 ), Grand Vizier 1871-1872, and from 1875 until 1876. He stood high in the favor of Sultan Abdulaziz and fell much under the influence of General Ignatiev, the energetic Russian Ambassador before the war of 1877/78, and his benevolence towards Russia earned him the nickname Mahmudoff. His administration was under any point of view very unsuccessful, and he was largely responsible for the issuance of the decision, which abolished the interest on the Turkish funds. From 1879 to 1883 he was Minister of the Interior.
