The Mahndorfer lake is a gravel pit with an area of ​​22.4 hectares and a maximum depth of 13 meters. In the lake there are two small bird islands, entry into which is prohibited.

Location and Directions

The Mahndorfer lake is located between the A1 motorway and the Mahndorfer military road in the southeast of the city of Bremen. A small part of the area belongs to Lower Saxony. He can be reached via the Mahndorfer military road by car. The journey by bus (line 38, 40 /41, 44; Station stop Mahndorf ) and by train ( Mahndorf station) is also possible. By the lake the border runs, the north-eastern shore belongs to the town of Achim in Lower Saxony.

History

The lake was formed 1961/62 during construction of the A1 motorway. He received his present size by sand extraction for construction of the Mercedes plant in Bremen.

Use

The Mahndorfer lake serves as a lake with DLRG station. There are two beach areas with coarse sand and three lawns. Since the water is very low in nutrients, it has a fairly good bathing quality.
