Makonde language

Chimakonde, simply Makonde, other names Chinimakonde, Konde, Matambe, Matambwe, Mekwengo, is the language of the Bantu ethnic group in southeast Tanzania Makonde and northeastern Mozambique.

Chimakonde is a central Bantu language and is in Mozambique in the province of Cabo Delgado spoken by about 350,000 people in Tanzania mainly on the Makonde Plateau in Mtwara Region. The number of speakers in Tanzania is likely to be close to 1 million. Most closely related is Chimakonde with the language of the Yao predominantly resident in Malawi Wayao.

The written language uses the Latin alphabet.
