Makonnen Endelkachew

Makonnen Endelkachew (* 1890, † 1963) was an Ethiopian politician. From 1942 to 1957 he was the first prime minister of his country.

The Office of the Prime Minister, was newly created by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1942, a year after his triumphant return to the Italian invasion in the course of social and economic modernization.

Endelkachew was entrusted by him with this office. He held it held to his resignation on 1 November 1957. His successor was Abebe Aragai.

17 years later his son Endelkachew Makonnen followed in the footsteps of his father and became Prime Minister.
