Malagasy Lapwing

The Madagascar Lapwing (Vanellus madagascariensis ) is an extinct Watvogelart from the kind of lapwings (Vanellus ), which has been known only by two subfossil humerus. The left and the right humerus were promoted at two different locations on Madagascar days. The first comes from Ampoza near Akkazoabo and the second from Lamboharna north of Toliara. These bones are in the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the Muséum national d' histoire naturelle in Paris.

According to radiocarbon dating the kind died out by the desiccation of their habitat and the resulting contraction of its range in the 14th century. The Madagascar plover represents the first date on Madagascar which has become known Kiebitzart. About appearance, lifestyle and area of distribution is not known.
