Malik Bendjelloul

Malik Bendjelloul ( born September 14, 1977 in Ystad ) is a Swedish documentary filmmaker and former child actor and Academy Award winner.

Life

Bendjelloul grew up in the province of Skåne län in Ängelholm. He played the role of Philip in the Swedish television series Ebba och Didrik from 1990. After high school he studied at the Media School in Kalmar the specialist film production and direction. Today he works as a documentary filmmaker and for the cultural program of the state cobra Swedish Television (SVT ).

Malik Bendjellouls brother is the cultural journalist and program director Johar Bendjelloul.

Documentary

The film Searching for Sugar Man was created in the years since 2006 with the cinematographer Camilla Skagerström. He describes the search for the American folk singer Sixto Diaz Rodriguez from Detroit, Michigan. This published in the early 1970s two albums in the U.S., but no commercial success brought with them. In South Africa, however, he became an icon. This development and the rediscovery of the singer in Detroit describes the documentary, which won him an Oscar.
