Style and formation

In Mama Africa Tosh put his attention less than the previous albums on the text statements, but focused on the music he produced in collaboration with Chris Kimsey. He mixed new songs with new recordings of older songs, his own title Stop That Train and Maga Dog from his time with the Wailers. He stood for the Rhythm Section two different duos to the side; for a Carlton Davis and Lebert Morrison, on the other Sly & Robbie. The singing backing vocals on three songs, the Tamlins, the busiest at that time background choir of reggae music. Betty Wright also be heard on the LP. Playing guitar Donald Kinsey, who also wrote the song Where You Gonna Run for the LP. Tosh moves safely through a number of styles from " Caribbean flair with African Beat" on the title track on the anti-nuclear missile song Peace Treaty with the sounds of falling bombs up to his idiosyncratic interpretation of Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Goode, which has become a " absolute crescendo of sounds " developed.
