Mamelodi

Mamelodi is a so-called Township in the east of Pretoria in South Africa. The settlement was established in 1953 on the site of the Vlakfontein farm, whose name originally was the new district, and was designed exclusively for black residents. In the late 1950s, the district was renamed in Mamelodi. The name means Mother of melodies.

In the 1960s, the black residents were forced Pretoria during the apartheid policy to leave the city and settle in the surrounding townships Mamelodi, Ga - Rankuwa, Soshanguve and Atteridgeville.
