Mamelodi Sundowns F.C.

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is a football club from Pretoria, who plays in the South African league, the Premier Soccer League. With five league titles, he is the South African record holder.

History

The club was founded in 1960 in the north -west of Pretoria. Since 1972, the Club of the Federation Professional Soccer League belongs to. This is the highest South African division was converted in 1978 to the National Professional Soccer League.

When they picked up the 1984 racial segregation in sports, was the National Soccer League, which organize the Premier Soccer League, was founded. The Sundowns started in the second division. In the late 1980s, the Standard Bank bought the club. But a short time later the owner changed once more, and the club went into the possession of the Twin Pharmaceutical Group.

In the 1997/98 season, Sundowns won the first time, the Premier Soccer League. The following two seasons they won also. In 2001, she reached the final of the CAF Champions League.

In 2003, the South African Industrial Patrice Motsepe took over 51 percent of the association. Three years later, he owned all shares in the club and named the club in Mamelodi Sundowns.

The seasons 2005/ 06 and 2006/ 07 were also in the sign of the association. The club won two more championships in the PSL and therefore since the start of the Premier Division in the Premier Soccer League in 1996 with five titles giants. In the following years the club but at first could not build on the successes of the two league titles and landed in the stands four ( 2007/ 08) and nine (2008/ 09). In the summer of 2011, the vice world champion of 1974 Johan Neeskens took over as coach at the first division to establish the attacking football again, and so to lead the team to a league and cup victories. After twelve days of play following season the paths of association and Neeskens parted; the team was at this time on the penultimate place in the standings. Pitso Mosimane took over as coach on December 2, 2012.

Stadium

The Mamelodi Sundowns play their home games from, among others, in the Loftus Versfeld stadium. Other home games found in H. M. Pitje stadium and the Super Stadium held in the districts of Mamelodi and Atteridgeville.

The training grounds of the Mamelodi Sundowns are located near the office in Midrand.
