Mamiya Rinzō

Mamiya Rinzo (Japanese间 宫 林 蔵, * 1775 in Kamihirayanagi, Tsukuba -gun, Hitachi Province (now Kamihirayanagi, Tsukubamirai, Ibaraki prefecture), † April 13, 1844 ) was a Japanese sailor and cartographer of the Edo period.

Mamiya is known due to the exploration and mapping of Sakhalin. He recognized the island character and was able to prove that because of the Sakhalin Tatarensunds has no connection to the Asian mainland.

In his later life Mamiya lived in the underground as an agent of the Tokugawa shogunate.
