Manang

Manang, also called Manangbhot, is a village in the Annapurna region in Nepal and located about 45 km north of Pokhara. It is an important stage of the trek Annapurna Circuit. The population was 1991 391 people in 120 households.

Location

Manang is situated in the wide Manangtal on the banks of the Marsyangdi and south of the Annapurna Himal at an altitude of 3,519 m. West of Manang lies at an altitude of 4,920 of Tilicho Lake, northwest is the 5,413 m high pass Thorong La and in the north rises the 6,584 meters high Chulu East in the air. Manang is part of the Manang District, in the Gandaki (Zone ) (development of the western region) is located.

Infrastructure

The village is a several hundred -year-old trading post. Arisen around them well-maintained supply paths that connect the Manang Valley with the valleys of the Kali Gandaki and Manaslu in the course of time. From Besisahar is built on a street for a few years, but completion is not currently foreseeable. All goods must therefore be transported by mules, yaks or carriers. 2.5 km east of the village there is a relatively new, small airport and in place a medical center that specializes in the study of altitude sickness.

Due to the location of the place to just over 3,500 m, it is ideal for walkers of the Annapurna Circuit, to acclimatise to the altitude and insert a rest day on the way to Thorong La in Manang.

The people of Manang live mainly from tourism ( catering and accommodation of trekking groups). But even the traditional agriculture and livestock ( yaks ) is operated.
