Mănăștur

Manastur (German Attersee or Transylvanian Saxon Appesdorf, Hungarian Kolozsmonostor ) was since the High Middle Ages until 1556 the seat of a Benedictine abbey (hence the name). The surrounding locality is since 1895 the district of Cluj ( Kolozsvár then, Kingdom of Hungary, now Cluj- Napoca, Romania). History

Middle of the 11th century here was founded a Benedictine abbey ( Monasterium Beatae Mariae de Clus ). The abbot in the German place names and the Monostor (German monastery) in Hungarian refers to the religious significance of the place. The Romanian Manastur is a transfer of the Hungarian name and is pronounced similarly.
