Mandela (also known by the title reference Mandela: Son of Africa, Father of a Nation ) is a documentary by directors Angus Gibson and Jo Menell from the year 1996.
Content
The film deals with the life story of Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa. The film shows Mandela's development from early childhood through his education to his struggle against apartheid and his subsequent imprisonment on Robben Iceland.
Reception
Film critic Roger Ebert gave the film 3 out of 4 stars, although he criticized the action as incomplete. In particular, the reasons Frederik Willem de Klerk to Mandela's release were insufficiently worked out.
