Manduca albiplaga

Manduca albiplaga ( preparation )

Manduca albiplaga is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The moths have a forewing length of 60-72 millimeters. You see Manduca rustica very similar and have as dark brown colored pairs of wings on which they carry prominent white spots which distinguish the two species from the rest of the genus. However, Manduca albiplaga is larger, bears a striking white of scales on the head and has a white band on the first abdominal segment.

The caterpillars have a black body color, which emphasizes the individual body segments well. The animals have a white back and sides broadly yellow-colored spots that surround the black spiracles. Through this lively coloring the caterpillar is unmistakable. The doll is not yet undescribed.

Occurrence

The species is widespread neotropisch. Your area extends from southern Mexico to southern Brazil. Further north, in North America it was caught only once near Ottawa County ( Kansas).

Way of life

The caterpillars were in Brazil (Pará ) to Kordien ( Cordia ), as well as found in species of the genus Rollinia from the family of Annonengewächse.
